All about my septum piercing

10863777_612203922242987_5944105365234579541_oWhen I was about 14 or 15 years old I wanted to get a nose piercing, just a regular one on the side and I even manage to convince my mom to let me have it.

So one day we went to the beauty salon/ piercing studio, where the piercer explained me that the piercing i wished to get would not suit my face as I have a big nose. At the time I was very young and didn’t stand up for myself and let her change my mind.

This year in April at the age of 21 I made a decision to get a septum piercing and no one could change my mind about it. So I went to my local tattoo shop “Kent tattoos” in Dartford and asked everything starting from prices to healing time and of course suitability to my face or “big nose”. The piercer was surprised and didn’t even think that my nose is big, we discusses jewelry options and I booked appointment few days later and got it done!

The process of getting septum piercing is showed and described in so many YouTube videos that I will not even try to put it in words myself, so check them out if you’re interested.

About the pain, for me it was quite painful because my tolerance of pain is not so high, even squeezing pimple on my nose makes my eyes water, so my eyes watered for a bit but there was no extreme pain it was just unconformable.

About the price, it varies from place to place but mine cost 30£ which is pretty expensive for a septum piercing but nevertheless I wouldn’t pay any other price for the service I got from this studio.

Septum piercing healing time differs from person to person.I could move it without having any pain 10 days after getting it, but that doesn’t mean it had completely healed, I used warm water + salt solution to clean it twice a day for the first 10 days. Please be aware that any unnecessary touching of your piercing can start an infection, if you are a person who have a need that the piercing is always straight consider using piercings that stays in the same position.10881601_612203982242981_3561836150024471564_n

About jewelry types, sizes, places to buy..

For starters let me say that I am not an expert on this topic, I am just sharing my story and what I have found on the web and the things I have tried.

So when I had my septum done I had the choice of 2 types of piercings – circular barbell aka “horseshoe ring” or curved barbell aka “banana bar” both of these were in 16 gauge size – 1.2 mm.10857741_612203812242998_434453282196712199_n

If you have the same problem as me and are in need to hide your piercings at your workplace, t  jewelry for you would be banana bar. Some people have small nostrils so they are not able to “flip up” the horseshoe ring and it’s easier to do it with the banana bar.

Now I have had my septum for 7 months and I decided to stretch it to one size up ( for now) which is 14 gouge – 1.6 mm. I have watched many videos, but the simplest way (in my opinion) is to use a pincher, doesn’t need any skills to change your everyday piercing to a pincher and it looks good too. This method recommended by Stigmas studios piercer Jay (http://stigma-studios.co.uk/) and I’m loving it, no pain, no discomfort, looks good, easy to hide while at work, can’t ask for anything more really.

After wearing my pincher for 4 days (ideally you have to wear it 4-6 weeks) I los1375877_612203868909659_7740919150988334633_nt one of its rubber stoppers if you get what I mean by that, so I had no choice and had to buy some 14 gouge jewelry.

Hiding septum piercing.

There is jewelry which is easy to flip up and some are not possible to flip up, it depends on your nostrils too. For me it’s easy to flip up 16 gauge horseshoe with 10 and 12 mm diameter, 14 gauge with 10 and 12 mm diameter, not possible to flip up 16 gauge with 8 or 12 mm diameter.1466123_612203845576328_1135463924190372662_n

These are the places and sites I have my jewelry from:

http://www.mpcontactlenses.co.uk/ – Really nice quality, haven’t had any problems, average price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/isucollateral – After wearing a 16 gauge gold-colored horseshoe for 2 months it started to lose its color by pealing off, was extremely cheap. Well you get what you pay for I guess.

http://tribu.co.uk/ – Good quality, different designs, not much to choose from but still something different, pretty expensive.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Terrys-Accessories-Shop/100389460042486 – Nice assortment of different type, size and color jewelry, average price.

  1. Your septum looks lovely! Mine is seriously one of my favourite piercings. I’m also thinking about stretching it up a few sizes, maybe to a 12g or 10g, depending on how it looks. Are you wanting to stretch it any more than to 14g?
